2010 Life is Good Festival Spreads the Power of Optimism

West Newton, MA (PRWEB) September 22, 2010

The Life is good Festival didnt just deliver a new marquee event to the music scene last weekend, it introduced a whole new entertainment concept: a family event that wasnt painfully wimpy, folded into a contemporary concert that wouldnt make parents cringe in front of their children.

--Scott Mclennan, Boston Globe

September 21, 2010 Boston, MA Over 25,000 festival-goers of all ages attended the 2010 Life is good Festival at Blue Hills on September 11-12, 2010, embracing a new event concept that blurred traditional lines, blending and harmonizing the worlds of the traditional outdoor rock festival, family-friendly entertainment, and charitable fundraising. A wide variety of attending media proclaimed the festival a new and unique entertainment event with both wide and deep appeal.

The festival was presented by Life is good, a Boston-based company that spreads good vibes through its colorful collection of apparel and accessories, and Superfly Presents, acclaimed producers of the iconic Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and Outside Lands. The goal of the event was to raise funds for the Life is good Kids Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit committed to helping children overcome life-threatening challenges such as violence, illness and extreme poverty.

We were thrilled to see music fans and young families come together like a giant backyard party. We all had a blast, and attendees should be very proud of what they did. They raised a lot of awareness and much-needed funds to help kids overcome life-threatening challenges such as poverty, violence, and physical illness. For that we are extremely grateful, said Bert Jacobs, Life is good co-founder and chief executive optimist. Optimism is fun and healthy, but this weekend I think we showed it can be powerful too.

The 2010 Life is good Festival was situated at the historic and picturesque Prowse Farm, located at the foot of the Blue Hills in Canton, Mass., a suburb of Boston. The festival featured three stages, with one devoted to the best performers in Kindie Rock, including the Laurie Berkner Band, Dane Zanes & Friends, They Might Be Giants and more.

On the main stages, national headline acts such as Jason Mraz, Ben Harper and Relentless 7, Corinne Bailey Rae, Trombone Shorty, Galactic, Guster and many others rocked the event with messages of harmony and optimism, while the crowd danced and sang along.

Alpari companies proudly announce 2010 results and achievements

New York, NY (Vocus/PRWEB) April 18, 2011

The Alpari companies (Alpari), which are among the worlds fastest growing providers of online foreign exchange (Forex, FX) trading services, are delighted to announce their figures and achievements for the full year 2010 (1 January 31 December). During the year the companies continued to add products and services, opened new offices and increased staff globally, further consolidating their strong position in the global Forex market.

Andrey Vedikhin, CEO of Alpari (UK), says, We would like to thank our customers for choosing Alpari. Our clients want choice, competitive pricing and excellent client service we are here to exceed expectations. The success of our companies throughout 2010 is reflected in our record monthly trading volumes of over $ 160 billion** globally and the increase in customer accounts to over 440,000*.

New products, platforms and services

During 2010, the Alpari companies launched even more products and introduced new account types and platforms. Alpari (UK) added contracts for difference (CFDs) to its product portfolio last year an offering which was already expanded early in 2011 due to client demand. The CFD clients of Alpari (UK) now enjoy access to 10,000+ markets via our brand new trading platforms QTrader and L2 Dealer.

In late 2010, Alpari (US) launched the demo version of Alpari FXOptions, a platform which combines existing multi-bank spot Forex liquidity with options pricing from top-tier banks to give clients greater flexibility to manage their trading strategies and risk exposure. The live version of the Alpari FXOptions trading platform was released several weeks ago and is now available to all Alpari (US) clients. Alpari (US) was the first US retail broker to offers spot FX and options trading from one margin account.

In 2010, Alpari Forex (India), a subsidiary of Alpari (UK), launched exchange traded currency derivatives, which symbolized not only a major step for the Alpari team in India and its clients but also the further development of the Indian Forex market as a whole. Alpari Forex (India) also became a member of three stock exchanges and opened a new office in Ahmedabad last year.

Alpari (Deutschland), another subsidiary of Alpari (UK), established a new office in 2010 in Frankfurt, Germany. The Frankfurt office serves and expands Alparis large client base across the German-speaking regions in Europe.

The Alpari companies clients were among the first traders to get a chance to test the unique capabilities of MetaTrader 5 when each Alpari company started offering the demo version of this highly anticipated next generation trading platform on our websites in early summer 2010. David Stuart, COO of Alpari (UK), remarks, Technology is paramount to our businesss success. We strive to always be ahead of the competition and partner only with innovative and forward-thinking technology providers.

In 2010, Alpari (UK) enhanced the automated portfolio trading experience with the release of the new version of Systematic. Systematic V2 simplifies the process of diversifying Forex investments with a wide range of time-tested trading strategies developed by Forex professionals. Because of the popularity of Systematic V2 amongst the client base of Alpari (UK) and its subsidiaries, Alpari (US) is now preparing to make it available in the US.

With the launch of MT4 Pro last year, Alpari (UK) combined one of the most popular retail trading platforms with institutional-level liquidity and pricing. Pro-account holders can now capitalize on direct market access and trade more than 50 currency pairs with tight spreads from 0 pips with ultra-fast straight-through processing. Alpari (US) also launched their MT4 Pro trading solution in early 2010 enabling access to US traders.

Each Alpari company has again improved its analysis and research offering to its respective client base. With in-house analysts and a 24-hour dealing desk, the Alpari companies have never been better poised to offer their clients up-to-the-minute and insightful market analysis. They have the ever popular Trading Central and Autochartist services, which also expanded their offering during 2010. The services continue to help clients through the perilous world of trading on the financial markets. In addition to these, clients also receive Alpari Squawk and Web TV live from the New York Stock Exchange provided by Trading Central.

The Alpari companies global expansion

Rapid global expansion means the Alpari companies are always looking to add true leaders in the industry to the Alpari team. Alpari (US) made its most significant recruitment to date at the executive management level when it appointed Daniel Skowronski as CEO of Alpari (US) last year. Skowronski, a former Managing Director of technology provider Currenex

Election 2010: State-by-State Data; How Many People with Mental Illness are Being Served?

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) September 30, 2010

State mental health agencies (SMHAs) provide direct services to between 15 to 60 percent of people living with serious mental illnesses in their states, according to state-by-state figures reported today by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

State mental health services are being cut dramatically, however, even as need has increased due to the nations economic crisis. Medicaid is the other major funding source of mental health care for people with serious mental illness, but also has been subject to cuts (see table below).

State mental health agencies cannot do it alone, said NAMI Executive Director Michael J. Fitzpatrick. They serve only a fraction of those who need helpand they struggle to do so with shrinking budgets.

Even without budget cuts, low percentages of people with serious mental illness served by SMHAs may point to weakness in the reach of a states overall system of care. Congress has some responsibility to help strengthen state mental health care systems. Federal mental health block grants have been reduced or frozen over the past 10 years. The impact of cuts in Medicaid-funded state programs also has been softened only through use of federal stimulus funds.

The state figures are offered as part of NAMIs fourth alert in an Election 2010 series reminding editors, reporters and others to ask all candidates what they intend to do about the nation's mental health crisis. Protecting and strengthening state mental health care must be part of the Election 2010 dialogue. In editorial board meetings and community forums, please ask candidates what they will do to help, Fitzpatrick said.

Every issue in the election involves mental health carefrom unemployment to troops returning from war. For example, unemployed workers are four times more likely to report symptoms of mental illness and veterans are twice as likely as civilians to die from suicide.

The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) Research Institute reported in Feb. 2010:

Total SMHA budget reductions from FY2009 to FY2011 were about $ 2 billion.
Approximately 90 percent of SMHAs were experiencing budget cuts in FY2010. Almost 75 percent had experienced cuts in FY2009 and the same level proportion expected cuts in FY2011.
Over 50 percent have responded by cutting community mental health services and reducing the number of people served. At the same time, SMHAs experienced increased demand for community services, including crisis services, emergency rooms and hospital acute care.

Weak state mental health care systems end up costing communities morethrough lost jobs and careers, broken families, more homelessness, higher insurance costs, more welfare and much more expensive costs for hospital emergency rooms, nursing homes, schools, police and courts, jails and prisons, Fitzpatrick said.

Below is a list of states that have adults with serious mental illness (SMI), rounded to 1,000, and the percent served by State Mental Health Agency (SMHA).
